We always check that our retailer know their charcs from their elbows and their washouts from their whirligigs. We make sure they've got squirt boaters on their staff. And we try to get out and paddle with them.

Exeter's the south-west's squirt capital. There are a couple of great squirt seams and, about a kilometre downstream from the summertime mystery spot at Flowerpots weir, there's the unrivalled AS watersports. Their riverside location's perfect for testing boats and they're always helpful.

Robin Hood watersports
