Float cut

Tailor-cut size and volume

A float cut's how we calibrate a boat to match its paddler. And, for the moment, we're including a free float cut with every boat!

Before we join them together, we take your hull and deck, and you, to the lake. We tape them up and let you paddle them. We’re looking for how it balances, how it floats and how easily you can engage the bow and stern. We can also check you're comfortable.

And for the real downtime dogs? It means we can strip out any extra volume you have.

So we’ll arrange a date that’s convenient for you to come and visit us in Nottingham. We normally use the Winfield Pool at Holme Pierrepont — there are warm changing rooms and you can visit the whitewater course. We’ll bring along your hull and deck, taped together, then we’ll test it for comfort and then on the water. After your float, we'll either seam the boat or we'll cut it down and ask you to float it again.

If you’re going for a large or medium chop, you probably don't need a float cut. Or if you don't want to travel, we can build a boat that you'll love. But if you'd like perfect poise and and absolutely minimal volume, a float cut’s the only way.
