Float cut

Personal performance tuning

Every squirt boat fits differently. Depending on your weight, shoe size and inside leg measurement, we'll change the size of the hull and deck before we seam them together.

If you're just getting into squirt, we can work it out with a 'chop chart', which tells us what works for different size paddlers.

But for the ultimate in tuned performance, you can come and visit us for a float cut. And it's included in your boat's cost!

What's a float cut?

Before we join them together, we take your hull and deck, and you, to the lake. We tape them together and let you paddle them. We’re looking for how it balances, how it floats and how easily you can engage the bow and stern. We also check you're comfortable.

And for the real downtime dogs? It means we can strip out any extra volume.

What does it involve?

So we’ll arrange a date that’s convenient for you to come and visit us in Nottingham. We prefer to use the Winfield Pool at Holme Pierrepont — there are warm changing rooms and you can visit the whitewater course. We can also float your boat where you live, but we'll charge a £100 fee for coming to visit, as well as fuel costs.

On the day we've arranged, we’ll bring along your hull and deck, taped together, then we’ll test it for comfort and then on the water. After your float, we'll either seam the boat or we'll cut it down and ask you to float it again.

If you’re going for a large or medium chop, you probably don't need a float cut. Or if you don't want to travel, we can build a boat that you'll love.

But for perfect poise and and absolutely minimal volume, a float cut’s the only way.
